What to Expect During an Evacuation

Government Charter Flights

Government-organised charter flights are typically arranged when commercial options are disrupted. These flights prioritise vulnerable nationals (elderly, medical needs, families with young children). Registration is usually required in advance through your government's online portal. Flights may depart from airports other than your nearest — be prepared to travel to the designated departure point. Luggage is typically limited to one bag (15-23kg). Costs may apply and vary by government.

Assisted Commercial Departures

Some governments negotiate additional seats on commercial flights rather than chartering entire aircraft. These seats are allocated through the embassy and may be offered at reduced or standard commercial rates. Airlines may also add extra flights on high-demand routes. Check with your airline directly for availability.

Military Evacuations

In extreme scenarios, military aircraft may be deployed. These operations are typically last-resort and involve strict security protocols. Assembly points will be communicated through embassy channels. Military evacuations may route through third countries before final repatriation.

Overland & Maritime Options

If airspace is restricted, overland routes to Oman (via Hatta or Al Ain) and maritime options may be activated. The UAE has 6 land border crossings with Oman and Saudi Arabia. Ferry services from Dibba to Musandam may also operate. Check our Border Crossings page for current status.
